This is probably the most geographically and musically diverse collection of bands and songs yet. I mean, for the first time (I think), there is a band from the West Coast, Midwest, and East Coast. Of course there is also a band from the UK (because y’all make some damn good music!). Go find something new to listen to on repeat like I am.
Don’t forget to show these bands some love…follow the socials, buy the music/merch, etc.
Here’s the recap of new (to us) bands we listened to last week (4/04 – 4/10).
xoxo Jaclyn
04/04: Magazine Beach
I listened to the 2020 EP, Friendless Summer. It opens with a ripper that turns to a bop, and bops the rest of the way through. This one is probably my ‘sounds like a super fun basement show’ band of the week. Favorite Track: Friendless Summer
04/05: Sweet Pill
I listened to everything I could find, at least twice. To say I’m excited for the full length, would be an understatement. Don’t sleep on this band. Favorite Track: Blood (that opening, am I right?)
04/06: Flycatcher
I checked out the 2019 release, Songs For Strangers. Jangly with a side of edge. I also listened to the new single, Sodas in the Freezer. I’m definitely intrigued to see what comes next. There once was a band from Long Island called The Stryder, this band reminded me of The Stryder. Favorite Track: Moving Forward (from the album)
04/07: Sunday Cruise
I checked out the 2021 album, SCREAMING IN THE MIRROR, which is something I’ve never done before. This band reminded me of The Cardigans, and The Cardigans are from the 90s. (If you haven’t been following along, 90s vibes, for me, are great vibes). Favorite Track: Test Run
04/08: Maggie Gently
New music Friday. I checked out the new album, Peppermint. It was somehow a perfect first record of my Friday. Sonically, I really appreciate the soft/sweet vox over an often perfectly distorted guitar. Favorite Track: Don’t Have Time
04/09: Brutalligators
I listened to the 2021 album, this house is too big, this house is too small. This was a really fun record. I listened to it twice, in a row. It’s perfectly rough around the edges. (that’s a compliment). It was really hard to pick a favorite. Favorite Track: Coffee & Codeine
04/10: stop.drop.rewind
New music Sunday? I checked out the new 2022 EP, Heavy Love. It was heavy, and I loved it. This band self-identifies perfectly, “What happens when emo kids grow up and get jazz degrees?” I’m glad this is what happened. Favorite Track: the whole thing
