The accidental theme for this week is ‘local-ish’. I think over 50% of the bands are Northeast or Northeast adjacent. That almost never happens. If I was in the business of booking 7 band bills, this group would be a pretty fun show. Find something new to listen to on repeat like I am.
If this is your first time here, I’m the worst music reviewer.
Don’t forget to show these bands some love…follow the socials, buy the music/merch, etc.
P.S. Protect trans lives. Say gay everyday. We can’t and won’t be erased. Be a safe space for your local and not so local queers to land. We see you. We are here for you. We love you.
P.P.S. Safe abortion for all. No compromise. No Apology.
Here’s the recap of new (to us) bands we listened to last week (8/22 – 8/28).
xoxo Jaclyn
08/22: Celebration Summer
I checked out the 2021 EP, Against The Gun. Reminds me of a band I’d hear playing at the Planetarium back when I was in high school. If you didn’t grow up in OCNY in the 90s early 00s you’ll have no idea what I mean. That’s ok, grab a flannel, push play…nostalgic vibes. Favorite Track: Against The Gun
08/23: Hotel Etiquette
I listened to the 2021 full length, Ex Questions. Genre bending delight – you know, like a tossed salad. Favorite Track: I Wanna Be Alright! or Back In The City
08/24: Regrown
New music Wednesday? I checked out the new self-titled EP. Their bio says, “we play music that we like with people that we like”. That’s exactly what it sounds like (also sounds like a fun show). Well done. Favorite Track: Hang Up
08/25: Heather Grey
New music Thursday? I checked out the new EP, Hubris Two NJ bands in a row, thanks Internet. A solid little EP. Sounds like a fun show. Favorite Track: Out Of Here
08/26: LOVEOVER
New music Friday! I listened to the new EP, Worse Than Before. You’re going to want to bop, and shout along. Oh, and it’s probably going to get stuck in your head. Favorite Track: Lonely Grave
08/27: One Armed Joey
New music Saturday? I checked out the new full length, Happiness, To Me. Self described as a melodic punk-y rock band. I appreciate the good use of a -y or -ish. Y’all are definitely punk-y in my genre book. Favorite Track: Numbstruck or Rot
08/28: Stand and Wave
New music Sunday? I listened to the new EP, Stay Home. I listened to this EP twice while driving the scenic route home from Jersey City. Sounds like a super fun basement show. Favorite Track: Cold Open (such a jam)
